Highlights of the Exhibition

With its ambitious scope and personal involvement from the artist, this exhibition promises to be a landmark cultural event.

The exhibition begins with a retrospective of Hockney’s early years, showcasing his transition from Bradford to London and California. Iconic pieces such as A Bigger Splash (1967) and Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two Figures) (1972) will highlight his fascination with swimming pools, a signature theme.

The core of the show then focuses on Hockney’s past 25 years, capturing the landscapes of Yorkshire, Normandy, and London. Visitors will encounter works like May Blossom on the Roman Road (2009) and Bigger Trees near Warter (2007), as well as Hockney’s iPad paintings from the ‘220 for 2020’ series.

The exhibition also explores Hockney’s fascination with art history, with references to Van Gogh and Munch. The finale features his most recent works, including self-portraits and enigmatic paintings inspired by Edvard Munch and William Blake.

Works from the artist’s portfolio can be found in “A Bigger Book”, the limited-edition collectable SUMO art-book, via The Thomas-Ferdinand Gallery.
