The Dick Institute takes us through the thirty-year career of acclaimed British artist Martin Creed. This playful exhibition showcases highlights from his diverse body of work, including sculpture, neon pieces, painting, and video, all presented in North Yorkshire for the very first time.
As an artist, musician, composer, and performer, Creed’s multidisciplinary practice draws inspiration from the everyday. He transforms ordinary materials and actions into witty reflections on existence, choice, perception, and the hidden structures that shape our daily lives.
One of the standout installations in the exhibition is Creed’s monumental Work No. 370 Balls 2004, filling the entire Main Gallery at Mercer. This expansive piece features nearly 1000 balls of varying scales, weights, and textures, creating a visually stunning experience. Visitors will also have the opportunity to encounter his iconic neon installation Work No. 890: Don’t Worry 2008, alongside Work No. 1340 2012, a striking large-scale wall painting composed of diagonal stripes.
Through this exhibition, you will gain unique insight into the world of one of the UK’s most acclaimed artists.
Opening times vary – see Dick Institute website for more details.
