Fifteen years after first exhibiting at Courtyard Arts, Hertfordshire artist, Lupe Cunha returns with Colourful Intrumentals, a vibrant series of abstract paintings that transform sound into colour.
Having moved from oils to acrylics, Lupe’s work revels in bold, expressive mark-making, using what she calls her “COLOURFUL INSTRUMENTS” to create mood and atmosphere rather than narrative.
This series began in 2020, just before the UK’s first lockdown, and is infused with the music that shaped her over the years – primarily rock & roll from the ‘60s and ‘70s. From Pink Floyd and Fleetwood Mac to Bruce Springsteen, the rhythm of these artists is woven into each brushstroke.
Much like a jazz riff, her compositions are free-flowing, intuitive, and deeply rooted in feeling.
Open : Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 4pm
