Es Devlin unveils Congregation, a large-scale choral installation supporting The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) at St Mary Le Strand.

Curated by Ekow Eshun, this powerful work will be open to the public from 3–9 October 2024. Devlin’s striking projection of chalk and charcoal portraits of 50 displaced Londoners will be accompanied by nightly choral performances, highlighting stories of migration and belonging.

This installation, set against the backdrop of the rich history of St Mary Le Strand and the Strand’s legacy as a migratory artery of London, weaves together portraiture, sound, and architecture in a profound reflection on displacement and resilience.

In parallel to the installation, the Sanctuary Programme and The Policy Institute at King’s will host public events and discussions with leading researchers on asylum and migration policy. Part of the wider season *Lost & Found: Stories of Sanctuary and Belonging*, curated by King’s Culture, these discussions aim to deepen public engagement with issues of forced displacement and migration policy.

Free public choral performances will take place in the pedestrianised area of the Strand, outside The Courtauld, at 7pm each evening from Friday 4th October to Wednesday 9th October, coinciding with Frieze London.
