“Solidarity is not the same as support. To experience solidarity, we must have a community of interests, shared beliefs and goals around which to unite, to build Sisterhood. Support can be occasional. It can be given and just as easily withdrawn. Solidarity requires sustained, ongoing commitment.”

Bell Hooks

First launched in Cork, Ireland, Artists’ Film International 2024 (AFI’24), now comes to London.

This global touring exhibition presents film works from fifteen international artists and artist collectives, offering diverse perspectives on how solidarity can be expressed through moving images.

The films explore solidarity as a form of collective resistance, togetherness, and interdependence, examining how it is needed, sought, and enacted at both micro and macro levels. As a unified body of work, AFI’24 sparks radical new visions, encouraging thought and inspiring potential transformations in our shared experiences.

Materials from the London Community Video Archive (LCVA) add historical depth, showcasing how moving images have been used for activism, community building, and social empowerment since the 1970s.
