Join The Procession—a mesmerising installation where present and past seamlessly intertwine.

In his most ambitious installation to date, Hew Locke asks us to “reflect on the cycles of history, and the ebb and flow of cultures, people and finance and power”.

Originally Commission by and presented at Tate Britain, The Procession allows us to bear witness to the legacy and survival of colonialism, the sugar industry, global financial control, and rising sea levels.

Locke routinely creates life-sized sculpted figures that are naïve in form but richly layered with meaning.  Again he does not disappoint.  With heartfelt nostalgia for his Caribbean ancestry, he skilfully interlaces the narratives of these overlooked historical figures.

Children, men and women dance, stumble and march in their own journeys, separated yet united by time.  Each character contributes to the vibrancy of the Carnival, a legacy of cultural pride, protest, hope and worship passed down through generations.

Prepare to be captivated as you surrender to this thought-provoking experience, beckoning us to pause, reflect, and unlock both our memories of, and new insights into, this powerful historical dance.
