As part of this year’s Frieze Festival, ThisWeekendRoom presents ‘Drink Water,’ a collection from Seoul-based artist Jinhee Kim.

Here, Kim uses the everyday act of drinking water as a metaphor to contemplate the meaning of identity beyond distinctions of race, culture, gender, and language.

Fuelled by her experiences of living abroad, Kim’s images highlighting the significance of mundane activities as sites of personal and cultural expression.

Both bold and fragile, these depictions of seemingly universal moments – a face peering from a crowd, a figure leaning on an empty table – reflect on how ingrained cultural values can translate into our everyday experiences.
