Resistance: How Protest Shaped Britain and Photography Shaped Protest explores the powerful relationship between social movements and photography over the past century.
From the suffragettes to anti-fascism marches and the Iraq War protests, this exhibition chronicles how ordinary people stood up for change in Britain from 1903 to 2003.
Curated by Steve McQueen, acclaimed artist and filmmaker, this exhibition features works by renowned photographers including Christina Broom, Vanley Burke, David Hurn, Tish Murtha, Humphrey Spender, Edith Tudor-Hart, and many others. Through compelling images, it reveals pivotal moments in British history, showcasing both celebrated and forgotten acts of resistance that have shaped the nation.
The exhibition is accompanied by a major publication, Resistance, compiled by Steve McQueen and edited by Clarrie Wallis with Sarah Harrison, featuring contributions from influential voices such as Gary Younge, Paul Gilroy, and Baroness Chakrabarti.
