The resplendent charm of Édouard Manet’s “Portrait de Monsieur Jules Dejouy” returns as it emerges from over ninety years in private hands.
Cherished by its original owner, Monsieur Jules Dejouy, the painting had been relatively untouched throughout the years, and can now be seen in it’s restored glory at the National Museum Cardiff.
Amgueddfa Cymru proudly acquired this remarkable oil on canvas in 2019, a testament to its enduring value.
Thanks to the invaluable support of the TEFAF Museum Restoration Fund, The Finnis Scott Foundation, and the Friends of National Museum Wales, the secrets of this rare portrait have been unveiled by Amgueddfa Cymru’s conservation experts, through meticulous x-ray examinations, technical analysis, and extensive cleaning.
Witness the revival of the artwork’s intricate brushwork and vibrant hues, as it’s true beauty is revealed for the first time in decades.
