Celebrating over 20 years of extraordinary work, internationally acclaimed Japanese photographer Rinko Kawauchi presents her poetic exploration of beauty in the everyday.
At the Edge of the Everyday World highlights the small, personal moments that shape our universal journeys. This is Kawauchi’s first major UK exhibition since 2006 and centres on her series M/E – standing for ‘Mother’, ‘Earth’, and ‘Me’ – blending themes of domestic life with the fragile beauty of the natural world.
Created between 2019 and the COVID pandemic, M/E features stunning images from Icelandic volcanoes, ice floes, Hokkaido’s snowy landscapes, and intimate domestic scenes. It invites viewers to reflect on our interconnectedness with nature.
The exhibition also includes a display of over 30 photobooks, showcasing Kawauchi’s career through words and imagery. Grounded in themes of care, identity, and sustainability, her lyrical work inspires audiences to reconsider humanity’s delicate relationship with the universe and ecology.
