The Clean Blue of Linen is a powerful new photography project by Yvette Monahan, documenting the revival of chemical-free flax farming at Mallon Farm in County Tyrone and its role in sustainable local supply chains. Commissioned by We Feed The UK, this exhibition forms part of a national campaign connecting photographers and poets with food producers to highlight solutions to climate change, wildlife recovery, and social justice.

At the heart of the exhibition is the story of Helen Keys and Charlie Mallon, flax farmers breathing new life into Northern Ireland’s linen heritage. Their work not only rejuvenates soil, waterways, and wildlife but also redefines farming as a sustainable and resilient practice. Monahan’s evocative photography captures the beauty of their journey, accompanied by a new poem, The Opposite of Apocalypse, by acclaimed Irish writer Abby Oliveira.

As part of Late Night Art Belfast, the exhibition will launch with a live poetry reading on 6 February, followed by a panel discussion on 8 February featuring experts in sustainable agriculture.
