More on the Art Piece

A Bigger Book, TASCHEN’s SUMO-sized David Hockney monograph, is a stunning celebration of over six decades of creative work. From his formative years at Bradford School of Art and his rise in 1960s London, to his vibrant Los Angeles pool paintings of the 1970s and recent works such as portraits, iPad creations, and Yorkshire landscapes, this book captures it all.

This publication, created with Hockney’s active collaboration, presents his art on an unprecedented scale. Each page bursts with the colours and textures that define his work—be it the glistening surface of A Bigger Splash, the expansive ochres of A Bigger Grand Canyon, or the luminous detail of Bigger Trees Near Warter. Drawings, photo collages, stage designs, multi-camera video pieces, and iPad images showcase Hockney’s ever-evolving techniques and his endless curiosity about perception and representation.

With more than 450 pieces included, accompanied by an illustrated chronology of over 600 pages, this extensive work offers unparalleled insight into one of the world’s most beloved artists. Hockney himself describes the project as a way to reflect on his career while crafting a definitive collection for art enthusiasts everywhere.
